Generations of Craftsmanship in Rioja Alta
On the banks of the Ebro River, in the village of Fuenmayor, lies Marqués del Hueco – a family-run winery with over a hundred years of winemaking tradition. For generations, they have worked on the same land, crafting wines that reflect the care, skill and character of Rioja Alta.
The mix of clay and limestone soils, the altitude differences up to 750 metres and the temperate climate all contribute to fresh, layered wines with a distinctive style. The estate comprises 200 hectares of vineyards spread across Rioja Alta and Rioja Alavesa, growing grape varieties such as Tempranillo, Graciano, Mazuelo, Viura and Garnacha.
From Riverbanks to Mountain Slopes
The vineyards of Marqués del Hueco stretch from the riverbanks up to the slopes of the Sierra Cantabria. This natural transition from moist lowlands to dry, elevated terrain – gives the grapes a unique balance between ripeness and freshness.
In the cellar, everything revolves around precision and balance. Each wine is made with respect for the grape variety, the vintage and the right ageing process.
Wines with Character
Marqués del Hueco’s wines are fresh, structured, and unmistakably Rioja. From the elegant Tempranillo with notes of red fruit and a hint of citrus, to the silky Crianza made from old vines, where ripe berries meet hints of toasted wood, toffee and cocoa. The Reserva stands out for its balance and long finish, with subtle oak influence and beautifully integrated fruit. All wines are aged with care, often in oak, and produced with attention to grape, terroir and vintage resulting in approachable wines with refined character, suited to a variety of occasions.
