Viticultores de Lapuebla

Forgotten vineyards, rediscovered flavours

In the heart of Rioja Alavesa, José Luis Heras brings new meaning to the word craftsmanship. With Viticultores de Lapuebla, he is committed to preserving old vineyards that are at risk of disappearing. The mission: to breathe new life into forgotten plots with a rich history and craft characterful wines that reflect the soul of the land. Every bottle is a tribute to the landscape, the heritage and the people of Lapuebla de Labarca.

A mosaic of terroirs

The vineyards of Viticultores de Lapuebla are spread across unique plots in Rioja Alavesa, each with its own soil, orientation and history. Situated between 545 and 700 metres above sea level, all are rooted in clay-limestone soils that lend structure and depth to the wines. On these historic sites grow grape varieties such as Tempranillo, Garnacha Tinta, Garnacha Blanca, Viura, Calagraño, Merlot, Palomino and Maturana. Many of the vines are over a hundred years old, standing as living proof of the winemaking tradition that José Luis now continues with care.

Single-plot wines

Each vineyard has its own story and that story comes through in the wine. Camino de la Torre is a powerful wine made from Tempranillo vines planted in 1923, grown on the Las Torres plot. Tempranillo is Rioja’s flagship grape, known for its deep colour and spicy aromas.

On the Carrakripan plot, Tempranillo grows alongside Viura (a crisp white variety), forming the basis of the elegant Carrelvillar.

Melancólica is made from Maturana — a rare indigenous grape with a bold character — grown at high altitude in Fuentepastores.

On the Alto del San Antón plot, Garnacha Tinta (vibrant red) and Garnacha Blanca with a touch of Calagraño (an old white grape) are vinified separately to create Galáctico and Adventicia.

Respect, detail and identity

Viticultores de Lapuebla works with attention and patience. By cultivating and vinifying each plot separately, the unique character of both grape and place is allowed to shine.

The result: pure, authentic wines with finesse and a clear sense of origin. Not mass-produced, but wines with purpose, personality, and a story worth telling.
