Bernabé Taberner and Jordi Satué, childhood friends, created Vinos Taberner Amado in 2018, a new adventure in the world of wine, making their own artisanal wines from their vineyards on family lands.
Taberner Amado Wines is located in a small town in Aragon, Nonaspe (1,025 inhabitants), in the border area with Catalonia.
Entre dos aguas
Its vineyards are located between two rivers: the Algars and the Matarraña, a perfect place for the care and growth of its varieties. At the same time, these vineyards are surrounded by the vegetation of Bajo Aragón, in privileged latitudes and enjoying the limestone lands, bathed by the river and under the warm and dry climate of the Miocene that offer their wines a special flavor.
Local wine is made with PGI Bajo Aragón, with the trademark “Entre dos aguas”.
The idea is based on the recovery of the rural territory, of the town of their grandparents that, like so many others, is gradually becoming depopulated by young people and losing activity. Through a project that starts from the cultivation of the vine itself, with more than 12 hectares of varieties that include white and red Garnacha, Syrah, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, they take care of the entire production process until they obtain surprising and pleasing wines. of the public.
They are committed to the area and are convinced that in Bajo Aragón there is a lot to do and a lot to offer.
Three generations
Three generations of farmers working the vines support each other. And that is the essence of his vision, to recover the hard work of his grandparents, who with their sweat and effort cultivated the vines that today they decided to turn into their wines.
Despite the powerful winemaking tradition of the area, the low prices in the market and the incentives for uprooting ended up radically reconverting the landscape and crops in this area of Bajo Aragón, now populated by almond, plum and peach trees. “At most, there will be about 15 hectares of vineyards in Nonaspe,” Jordi calculates. Of that figure, 12 are part of his project.
With the desire not to let the family legacy fall into oblivion, in 2018 Bernabé took the plunge and made 1,000 bottles of wine from white and red varieties. “It was very well received, although there were things to polish,” they remember. To move forward, the Nonaspino had no doubts about the path to follow: “we have to do it well, but we do it together or we don’t do it at all.” Jordi didn’t think twice. And so, in 2019, the Vinos Taberner Amado winery was born.
Jordi still lives in the city, where he works in the finance department of a company dedicated to online commerce, although this is not his only occupation. Just like the vineyards, a traditional crop on the border between Aragon and Catalonia, Satué’s roots took hold strongly since he was a child. “Whoever has a town has a treasure, and the roots in the town create that feeling of wanting to do something,” he says. For this reason, and to “give back to the town the joys it has given me,” a few years ago he decided to embark on the Vinos Taberner Amado project with his best friend, the Nonaspino farmer and summer neighbor in his childhood, Bernabé Taberner.
The vineyards and wines
The grapes grow on clay, gypsum and river stone soils, mostly of the Garnacha variety, but also Cabernet, Syrah and Merlot.
This results in beautiful white and red wines (Entre dos aguas) and signature wines (Amanda and M&M) that combine varieties such as Syrah, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Garnacha.
