The Arbela Winery is located in the Basque province of Gipuzkoa, at the foot of Mount Andatza. Nestled among woods and streams that are no strangers to either the sea or the mountains, woodland ecosystems and cutting-edge technology combine in the region to generate everything that is needed to nurture the soil. A fruitful blending of ancient wisdom and modern-day expertise
Aiako Zipiotegi Farmhouse
Arbela Txakoli is made in the Aiako Zipiotegi Farmhouse in a region that is the point of union between the mountains and the sea.
Nestled between the coast and the hilly woodlands, the Aia vineyards enjoy unique geological and climate conditions: the perfect mix of proximity to the sea and precipitous mountain slopes. And it is this two-fold nature that makes their wine so special. Abundant downpours. The constant assault of the wind and waves. Fruit trees and their carpets of fallen leaves. Together, they offer the perfect blend of two very different worlds.
Txakoli
ARBELA Txakoli owes its name to the sloping layers of slate sediment so characteristic of the region (the word arbela means slate in Basque).
Although vines in general fare best in clayey soils, slate gives Txakoli the
counterpoint it needs, thereby ensuring an unbeatable balance with its mineral hints in the palate.
Getariako Txakolina
ARBELA forms part of the Getariako Txakolina designation of origin, and is much more than a wine to be enjoyed occasionally in a light-hearted festive atmosphere. It is a perfect accompaniment to meals, and best appreciated
when sitting around a table: it is an intense wine, lively and pleasant.
Although it is best paired with fish and seafood, it goes extremely well also with many other dishes besides and is guaranteed to delight even the most
demanding palate.
Txakolina meets Albariño
This is not your typical Txakoli wine here. Grown in a vineyard a few miles more inland, the climate is warmer and allows for the grapes to achieve higher ripeness. This wine thusly rounder than usual, and also does not have as much prototypical fizz. Aromas include saltiness and sea spray accompanied by stone fruit and citrus zest. Slight bit of green and white peppercorn spice on the palate and a chalky minerality; it’s as if “Txakolina meets Albariño.”
