Generations of craftsmanship in Jumilla
In the heart of Jumilla, on sun-drenched high plateaus in southeastern Spain, the Carcelén family has been producing characterful wines from their own land for generations. The winery was founded in the late nineteenth century by Asensio Carcelén Herrero and later expanded by his son. Today, the fourth generation is at the helm, and the winery has evolved into a modern organic estate with international reach. Under the leadership of Juan Carcelén Gilar, the family continues its legacy with a clear focus on innovation and authenticity.
Monastrell as the foundation
The vineyards of Asensio Carcelén cover around 300 hectares and are located directly around the winery. Ninety percent of the plantings consist of Monastrell, the signature grape of Jumilla. Small plots of Syrah and Garnacha Tinta complete the picture. Almost all vines are traditional bush vines, dry farmed on poor, stony soils and carefully pruned and harvested by hand. The dry climate, high elevation and organic methods result in grapes with a pure expression of their origin: ripe, concentrated and balanced.
From field to bottle
Since 2006, the winery has been located in the middle of the vineyards. This proximity allows for fast and precise work from harvest to pressing. Vinification is modern, with a strong focus on quality and environmental care. Since 2011, all wines have been officially certified organic. The annual production is around 500,000 kilos of grapes, the majority of which is bottled for national and international distribution.
Wines with a clear signature
The wines of Asensio Carcelén are robust, spicy and full of warmth, with the distinctive depth of Monastrell. At the same time, they retain freshness thanks to the altitude and the natural balance in the vineyard. Each bottle tells the story of a family deeply connected to their land and their grapes. A story that grows with every generation but always rests on the same foundation: honest wines with character.
