Ontalba

Wines from the high plateau

In the southeastern province of Albacete, where the high plateau of Almansa is defined by dry air, altitude and stony soils, lies Bodegas Ontalba. The winery was founded in 1957 as a cooperative of local winegrowers who joined forces to improve the quality and reputation of their wines. Today, more than 1,700 members work together to produce wines that capture the strength and freshness of this unique region.

Grape varieties with character

The vineyards are located at around 700 meters above sea level and are planted with a wide range of grape varieties. Monastrell and Garnacha Tintorera form the backbone of the red wines, complemented by Tempranillo, Syrah and Cabernet Sauvignon. For whites, Airén and Verdejo play a major role, alongside Sauvignon Blanc and Chardonnay. This diversity allows the winemakers to create both classic styles and modern interpretations, always marked by the distinctive influence of the plateau.

Wines with balance and character

The style of Ontalba is honest, fruit-driven and recognizable. The red wines show ripe fruit and spiciness, supported by fresh acidity and soft tannins. The white wines are light and aromatic, with fresh citrus and subtle floral notes. Rosé and sparkling wines complete the range. What unites them all is the balance between power and freshness, shaped by the climate, altitude and the craftsmanship of the winemakers.

Sustainability and innovation

Alongside respect for tradition, Ontalba continually invests in modern techniques and sustainable practices. The cooperative applies integrated viticulture, focuses on water conservation and promotes biodiversity in and around the vineyards. In the cellars, advanced vinification processes ensure consistent quality and precision, while solar energy and environmentally friendly systems help reduce the ecological footprint. Ontalba combines the strength of cooperation with a forward-looking vision.

Stronger together in Almansa

Ontalba proves that cooperation and tradition form the foundation for innovation. By pooling knowledge and resources, the cooperative continues to invest in quality and sustainability. The result is wines that reflect not only the terroir of Almansa, but also the collective craftsmanship of the families who have been making wine here for generations.
